The Evolution of an Icon

The 2002 season at El Questro Wilderness Park finally saw the destination enter a new phase of its self-imposed Wilderness Park status.

Over the previous 5 years, surveys were conducted over parts of the 1,000,000 acres that make up the Wilderness Park. Government authorities, area specialists and El Questro's retained Wilderness Park employees have been contracted to collate data on the local flora, fauna and cultural heritage information, including the pioneering history of our forefathers.

This information is now available to all visitors to El Questro. It is presented in a number of ways, including informative signage and a comprehensive series of "trail data sheets". For example, these sheets give trail walkers and other visitors to the region the choice to either join an El Questro Ranger on a guided walk, or have the information précised on a sheet which relates to markers posted at points of interest on trails and generally around the Wilderness Park.

Although extremely worthwhile, these improvements have come at a significant financial cost to the Wilderness Park. So, to recoup these costs, El Questro has introduced a fee in the form of a Wilderness Park Permit, to cover these costs.

The Wilderness Park Permit is $15.00 per adult, and is valid for up to seven days. Children 12 years and under free of charge. Visitors to the property are required to purchase the permit upon arrival at the property.
